It is done by pressing one's nose and forehead (at the same time) to another person at an encounter. This exhibition is a wonderful example of the way the people of Canterbury and Hubei can share our cultures.</div><div>从缔结国际姐妹城市关系伊始，我就一直相信：文化交流将在增进两国人民的友谊和理解中起到关键作用。 这次展览便是坎特伯雷和湖北人民共享文化的一个绝佳例子。</div><div></div><div>The exhibition also furthers the level of friendship and contact between Enshi and Waimakariri. Earlier this month we had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from Enshi led by Governor Liu Fanzheng. They came as part of a larger delegation from Hubei to Canterbury and was the second visit at an official level from Enshi to Waimakariri. Last year, I led a delegation to Enshi and it was there that an International Sister City agreement was signed between the Government of the Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture and the Waimakariri District Council.</div><div> 此次影展也进一步加强了恩施和怀马可里里人民的友谊与联系。本月早些时候，我们荣幸地接待了州长刘芳震率领的恩施州政府代表团。这是他们第二次正式到访我市，也是湖北省出访坎特伯雷大代表团活动的一部分。去年我曾率代表团拜访恩施，并签订了恩施土家族苗族自治州和怀马可里里市政府之间的国际姐妹城市协议。</div><div>Photography is an art form that is totally international and, now that we have smart phones with cameras, and the ability to immediately send the photos via direct messaging or social media, it is an art form that is universally popular. </div><div> 摄影是非常国际化的艺术形式。现今随着智能手机和相机的普及，人们可以拍了照立刻通过信息或社交媒体传送出去，摄影也成了全球流行的一种艺术。</div><div>It is often said that “the photo doesn’t lie,” but that is misleading because the photographer decides what you will see and that it is open to both their and your interpretation. Even a landscape may convey the photographer’s idea of beauty, of quirkiness, of the magnificent, even of the ugly.</div><div> 常言道“图片永存”，但这句话是有误导性的 — 因为不仅照片的内容是拍摄者决定的，照片的创作者和观众对其的解读也都是开放性的。</div><div>Photographs often convey a message from the photographer, which the viewer has then to accept, reject or maybe reinterpret. On behalf of the People’s Municipal Government of Enshi, I’d like to extend the warmest greetings and best wishes from its 800,000 citizens of Tujia and Miao ethnic minorities. </div><div>Situated at the mysterious 30 degrees north latitude, Enshi is one of China’s best tourist destination cities. It is also known for being a national Garden City, and a role model in recreational agriculture and eco-tourism.</div><div>Enshi is beautiful and magical. It boasts the world’s only found selenium deposits and enjoys and the unique title of “the World’s Selenium Capital.” As much as 62.42% of the city is covered by forest, hence its other titles as “Western Hubei’s Sea of Forests” and “Natural Oxygen Bar.” It is also very livable with winters never too cold and summers never too hot. Rich in Karst landscape, it has plenty of caves and canyons. There are precipitous peaks and peculiar rocks scattered among the mountains and rivers, a real grand and majestic view to all. The Enshi Grand Canyon, one of China’s national 5A tourist attractions, is found by many to rival its counterpart in Colorado, U. S. There is more to see, of course, including the picturesque Qingjiang River scenery and the perfectly natural Suobuya Stone Forest. Enshi presents such attractive and magical scenes that everyone, I am sure, will find the city a delight to walk around and a pity to walk away from. </div><div>Enshi has a profound cultural background, too. The Peoples of Tujia, Miao, Dong and other minorities account for 38% of its population. Its cultural heritage performances, such as Lantern Exhibition, Dulcimer, and Nuo Opera, are famous home and abroad. The annual Enshi Ladies’ Party is regarded as the Oriental Valentine’s Day. En’ga—The Ladies’ Party, a grand musical has become a local icon and brought the city international recognition. Acclaimed ancient poets Li Bai, Huang Tingjian, and Su Shi visited the city and left us with tourist destinations such as Xijue Creek and the Moon-inquiring Pavilion. Contemporary scholar and writer Yu Qiuyu spoke of Enshi as “a place with crouching tigers hidden dragons.”</div><div>Ladies and Gentlemen, my dear friends, Waimakariri and Enshi are sister districts. We both cherish good communications and deepening bonds. On my trip here, I have brought along the cultural exchange programme-- Tujia Style. I sincerely hope that the photographs, intangible cultural heritage artworks, and products from local businesses will help you to have an all-round view of Enshi, to know her better, and even to fall in love with her.
