【第1474篇日记】Why or why not will you ban mobiles in your Chinese class?

　　The advantages and disadvantages

of using mobiles and tables in the

class are equally obvious.On one hand

it is convenient to look up words in the

dictionary and download some

multimedia materials to aid the

learning，like a real person's

pronunciation for a word;but on the

other hand，being exposed to loads of

online information will apparently

district the students from learning and

affect the teaching and learning of the

whole class.

To sum it up，I don't think I should

ban mobiles or tables in class，but I

do believe that it is quite necessary to

regulate the use of mobiles or tables.

That's to say there must be a rule over it .If the school already has such a rule

I must follow that，even if it forbids

the students to use.However，if

there's no such rule yet，I need to

make our own one together with my

students.

First， I need to "say what I mean",

which means I should make it crystal

clear in what conditions the students

are and are not allowed to use mobiles

For example，it will be okey if they

need a quick looking up in the

electronic dictionary，but it won't be

fine if they use the mobile when a

whole-class activity is ongoing.

Meanwhile，I also need to make it

clear how long the students are

allowed to use their mobiles.A brief

use is certainly fine but they can't do

that all the time，because mobiles

and tables are just an aid to the

learning，but not the aim.

Second，when the rule is already

there，I need to "mean what I say",

which means I should strictly carry out

the rule we've made in order to ensure

the teaching and learning will be least

affected.If a student breaks the rule，

he or she has got to be warned，and if

he or she keeps breaking it over and

over again，I ought to do something

more severe，like confiscating the

mobile until the end of the class.
