<p class="ql-block"> You are in the middle of a speaking</p><p class="ql-block">activity，but you find some of your</p><p class="ql-block">students speaking in English or their</p><p class="ql-block">own language.What are you going to</p><p class="ql-block"> do?</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">First of all，I need to observe and </p><p class="ql-block">analyse their behaviour to find out why</p><p class="ql-block">they are speaking in English or their</p><p class="ql-block">own language.If it is just the </p><p class="ql-block">necessary aid for better understanding</p><p class="ql-block">and doing the activity，I'll be fine with</p><p class="ql-block">that.</p><p class="ql-block"> However，if that has taken place</p><p class="ql-block">of speaking Chinese，or it has taken a</p><p class="ql-block">long time，I'm afraid I've got to </p><p class="ql-block">interfere in a proper way and try to </p><p class="ql-block">help my students.</p><p class="ql-block"> Generally speaking，students</p><p class="ql-block"> know exactly what and how they are</p><p class="ql-block">supposed to do，so actually I don't </p><p class="ql-block">have to give my instructions in a bossy</p><p class="ql-block">way.A gentle reminder("Chinese，</p><p class="ql-block">please") will normally do.</p><p class="ql-block"> Or，I can join some of the</p><p class="ql-block"> students，talking to them and</p><p class="ql-block"> helping them in Chinese.Their </p><p class="ql-block">response will certainly be in Chinese</p><p class="ql-block">too，and they may be more confident</p><p class="ql-block">with speaking in Chinese.Furthermore</p><p class="ql-block">if they need help with their Chinese，I am already there ready for that.</p><p class="ql-block"> Maybe in the future，I can do</p><p class="ql-block"> something more effective.I think it </p><p class="ql-block">would help if I separate students from</p><p class="ql-block">the same country into different groups</p><p class="ql-block">and create more chance for one to talk</p><p class="ql-block">to people from other countries，so</p><p class="ql-block"> they would have to speak more </p><p class="ql-block">Chinese to do their jobs.If the reason</p><p class="ql-block">for their not communicating in</p><p class="ql-block"> Chinese this time is that the activity is</p><p class="ql-block">too complicated.I'll adjust the</p><p class="ql-block"> differently in terms of form and </p><p class="ql-block">content for similar activities in the </p><p class="ql-block">future，such as designing different</p><p class="ql-block">steps of unfolding an activity and </p><p class="ql-block">paving the way for their output in </p><p class="ql-block">Chinese.</p>
