【第1470篇日记】Will you still start the lesson at the scheduled time?

<p class="ql-block">  When some of your students are </p><p class="ql-block">late for your lesson,will you still start </p><p class="ql-block">the lesson at the scheduled time?</p><p class="ql-block"> Some students are normally late for</p><p class="ql-block">lessons,so the teacher usually chats</p><p class="ql-block">with the students who are already </p><p class="ql-block">there till the whole class are there.Do</p><p class="ql-block">you think it is a good idea?</p><p class="ql-block"> </p><p class="ql-block"> When many students are late for a</p><p class="ql-block">lesson,it will be a real dilemma for </p><p class="ql-block">me as the teacher and for those who</p><p class="ql-block"> are already there.Technically,I should</p><p class="ql-block">start the lesson at the scheduled time</p><p class="ql-block">but that means lots of my students will</p><p class="ql-block">miss something.Especially when an </p><p class="ql-block">important thing is supposed to be </p><p class="ql-block">taught in that lesson,those who</p><p class="ql-block"> come late will probably be left behind.</p><p class="ql-block">On the other hand,if I wait for them,it will be unfair to those who are there.</p><p class="ql-block"> In my opinion,the proper way of </p><p class="ql-block">solving this dilemma is to let the </p><p class="ql-block">students decide.If most of them don't </p><p class="ql-block">agree to wait,I'll start the lesson</p><p class="ql-block">straightway .If they are fine with </p><p class="ql-block">waiting,I'll allow some time(maybe 5</p><p class="ql-block">minutes),and during that short period</p><p class="ql-block">I'll do something related to previous</p><p class="ql-block">lessons with the students,so that it </p><p class="ql-block">won't be a waste of time.</p><p class="ql-block"> No matter whether I'll wait,I </p><p class="ql-block">should help those who are late to </p><p class="ql-block">catch up.For example,when there is</p><p class="ql-block">a reputation of what they have missed</p><p class="ql-block">I can remind them or ask them to have a go.Or if it is necessary,I can offer</p><p class="ql-block">them time off for some catch-up work.</p><p class="ql-block">Some time after school or before the</p><p class="ql-block">next lesson normally looks good.</p><p class="ql-block"> But I believe that it's necessary to</p><p class="ql-block"> set up some mutually understood </p><p class="ql-block">rules over being late,so that </p><p class="ql-block">everyone knows what the rules are,</p><p class="ql-block"> that we should follow them and that</p><p class="ql-block">anyone should be responsible for any</p><p class="ql-block">consequences that they lead to.</p>
