<p class="ql-block"> What are you going to do when a</p><p class="ql-block"> student makes many pronunciation </p><p class="ql-block">and grammatical mistakes?</p><p class="ql-block"> Students make all sorts of linguistic</p><p class="ql-block">mistakes,many of which need to be</p><p class="ql-block">corrected,but it doesn't mean that a</p><p class="ql-block">teacher will have to correct all of them.</p><p class="ql-block">It's impossible and we shouldn't do it,</p><p class="ql-block">either,because it wouldn't be polite</p><p class="ql-block">if I interrupted again and again,and </p><p class="ql-block">this wouldn't help students develop </p><p class="ql-block">the language intuition and the ability</p><p class="ql-block"> of expressing their ideas in longer</p><p class="ql-block">paragraph.</p><p class="ql-block"> Furthermore,students might</p><p class="ql-block">be upset if I keep correcting them.In</p><p class="ql-block">other words,there are some mistakes</p><p class="ql-block">that teachers don't have to correct,</p><p class="ql-block">for example,those that won't cause</p><p class="ql-block">misunderstanding and some obvious</p><p class="ql-block">unintentional mistakes.</p><p class="ql-block"> On the other hand,teachers must</p><p class="ql-block">correct those mistakes</p><p class="ql-block"> *that cause misunderstanding,</p><p class="ql-block">and</p><p class="ql-block"> * that are systematic errors.</p><p class="ql-block"> Otherwise,the expression or </p><p class="ql-block">communication would be invalid,or</p><p class="ql-block"> the students would make sure such </p><p class="ql-block">mistakes repeatedly.</p><p class="ql-block"> When I have got to correct </p><p class="ql-block">mistakes,I'll try to do it in more </p><p class="ql-block">effective ways instead of coldly telling</p><p class="ql-block">my students"You are wrong."For </p><p class="ql-block">instance,when a student finishes</p><p class="ql-block">talking,I need to understand what he</p><p class="ql-block">or she was trying to say,and then I'll</p><p class="ql-block">say that myself,as if I were confirming</p><p class="ql-block">what the student just said.In this case</p><p class="ql-block">he or she might notice that we have</p><p class="ql-block">said differently and he or she might</p><p class="ql-block">pick up what I have said to correct</p><p class="ql-block">himself or herself.</p><p class="ql-block"> Mistakes are not necessarily</p><p class="ql-block">negative things for at least two</p><p class="ql-block"> reasons.First,as a matter of fact,</p><p class="ql-block">they will make us reflect our teaching</p><p class="ql-block">to see if there is room for us to</p><p class="ql-block"> improve our teaching.Second,they</p><p class="ql-block"> can also benefit our linguistic</p><p class="ql-block"> reserches. We can analyse those</p><p class="ql-block"> mistakes and find ways to get rid of</p><p class="ql-block">them.Such researches will benefit the</p><p class="ql-block">teaching and learning in return.</p>
