【Baby Sitting】 Basketball class

1/9/25

Last night, I followed Rocky and Archer to Archer’s first basketball class. In our Aurora gym in Illinois, children's basketball classes usually have only 5-7 students in a class. In Kent, Seattle, there are 18 students in a class. And they are in the 3-6 age group. 3-year-olds and 6-year-olds are very different in height, weight, and intellectual development, but they are put in the same class. It's just like first graders and sixth graders taking classes together. Archer is a head shorter than all the other children.

The coach is a tall and thin young man who looks like a high school student. Rocky said he sympathized with the coach because there were too many children, and their teachable levels varied too much. Many children either didn't understand the instructions, or didn't want to follow the instructions, or just did what they wanted. The scene was almost a mess.

There were 4 girls and 14 boys There were 3 Asian boys. A large group of parents came, and each child had 2-3 parents following. They all took videos. A pair of Middle Eastern parents brought the older brother of their child who was learning basketball and forced him to lie on the side of the court to do his homework. There was also a younger brother of the child who was learning basketball. He did not register for basketball classes, but he ran through the court with the 18 warriors without permission and was knocked down by the athletes who were like wild horses.

It is interesting to observe the races of the parents. Compared with Illinois, Seattle is a region ten times more diverse . Chicago is just four types of people: white, black, yellow, and Mexican. And here, on top of those, there are Middle Easterners, Ukrainians, Indians, and blacks who have recently immigrated from Africa. Although these blacks are black, they are very different from African American. They do not have the innate victim complex, such as "your ancestors owe us for generations." These black people like us Chinese, hope to integrate into the free world.

The course is very long, 45 minutes. I think a three-year-old child like Archer cannot last such a long class. In the first half of the class, Archer was very timid like several other children. Whenever the professor gave a command, they did not run towards the destination, but towards their parents. It was not until the second half that Archer overcame his fear. The coach also noticed that he was very young and deliberately let him stand at the front of the line.

I am very satisfied with the coach's course content. The training items are: running across the court, running in zigzag line, running with the ball, running in zigzag line with the ball, passing the ball, running and stopping, and three-step and shooting . Some items are too difficult for children aged 3-6. It is good enough that they can understand the instructions and follow them.

Last night was the first class, one class per week, total of eight classes. The total fee is $88. It is not expensive. Rocky kept saying, "Our Kent City is a low-income city." At this rate, it is estimated that after eight classes, the children will definitely make great progress.
