The first unit has come to an end, showcasing the fun and creativity explored by the students of K2C!

‍Below is the amazing community project K2C has been working on both independently and collaboratively! They created their own community, including various services they’ve learned about, such as police stations, restaurants, fire stations, and residential areas.

‍Just take a look at how beautiful their communities are!

To conclude the unit, K2C learned about systems and their role in helping our community function. Each part of a system is essential for its smooth operation, and removing any component can significantly impact its functionality.

K2C explored various community systems, including the healthcare system, emergency services, school system, sanitation, transportation, and utilities!

‍

As part of our inquiry activities, students explored the restaurant process of ordering a burger:

• Step 1: Getting the meat from the farm.

• Step 2: Transporting it to the restaurant.

• Step 3: Chefs cooking the burger.

• Step 4: Enjoying the burger at the restaurant.

Removing or disrupting any of the first three steps in this system would severely impact the restaurant’s ability to serve food to its customers!

‍Let’s take a look at the students creating the process !

‍

‍

‍

Here are some students, drawing the many systems they have discovered in this unit

Unit 2- Human actions impact the environment and other living things

Welcome to the new unit! K2C will explore how to help the environment, save our planet, learn about recycling and recyclable materials, and understand how our actions impact the environment.

‍

‍To begin the unit, we tapped into K2C’s prior knowledge of recycling through an activity requiring students to select images which they felt best suited to the meaning of recycling ♻️

Next, we explored recycling by learning what it is, identifying the names of different recycling bins, and figuring out where items belong.

In this task, we looked into sorting out various images into two categories, recyclables and rubbish!

‍It has been a fun process to figure out where different items belong…

Lastly, K2C have been working hard on their phonics, as well as just starting our new RAZ programme!

In this RAZ lesson, we reviewed the consonant N. We played a game where students sorted words with an initial N sound on one side of the table and words with a final N sound on the other. Afterwards, students independently matched images to words with an initial N sound as part of their task.
