9/24/24, cloudy/rain, 14-20C.

Santiago de Compostela

Today is a rest day. I haven't had a rest day on this trip, apart from the day I took the bus. After the French Way, I will take the Finisterre, which means the end of the world. It's only 90 kilometres from Santiago to Fisterra. I leave tomorrow.

Today I attended the 10:30 English Mass at the Pilgrims' Centre. I used to think that Catholic services were just rituals, but today I realised that the priests also talk about real things. It was very interesting. Everyone was also given a sheet of lyrics and a copy of the service programme. The words that the congregation had to say were written in bold. I now understand why those Spaniards can say things in unison at certain times during the service.

I went to the museum in the afternoon. Note that you can go to 4 different places with one ticket. There is a great collection of artefacts about Santiago. You can also go up to the 4th floor balcony of the cathedral for a view. The convent is part of the museum and I almost missed it. The collection inside is well worth seeing.

Stayed yesterday and today at Albergue SCQ, rating 9.3, very nice albergue, just a bit far away, 20 min walk to the cathedral.
