What an exciting journey it has been so far for the K2C students! A new school year and a new unit have brought so much joy and growth, filling the classroom with positive energy.

It has been a pleasure getting to know the class, and I am truly grateful for how warmly the students have welcomed me.

In this newsletter, we will explore the students’ English journey through inquiry, phonics, and circle time!

Let’s begin!

First, let’s explore the different inquiry activities K2C has embarked on for this unit, “Systems Help Our Communities to Function.”

To begin, the students participated in a simple tuning-in activity designed to spark their interest and assess their understanding of the different community services they were familiar with. They selected their favourite pictures of services found in communities and then enjoyed coloring them!

During circle time, the students played several games to become familiar with the people in our community, their workplaces, and their names in English:

Next, let’s take a look at the community helpers book the students have been creating and working on! During circle time and inquiry sessions, K2C has been learning about the various people who help us in our community and the important roles they play. These community helpers include doctors, firefighters, vets, paramedics, police officers, dentists, lollipop person/school crossing patrol, and many more!

👩🏻💼👨🚀👨🏼🚒👨🏼🍳👮🏽💇🏼♀️👩🏻🏫👩🏽⚕️

As the students become familiar and build their knowledge and understanding on the people in our community and its services, the students then started to learn about the concept of needs and wants.

Q. The first step in this wonderful project was colouring and assembling models of community services, such as a police station and a fire station. Patience is key in this stage, as the students carefully choose appropriate colors to make the buildings as accurate as possible. They are also focusing on their fine motor skills, doing their best to colour within the lines!

We have also recently started to role play as different community helpers! 💇🏼♀️👮🏽👨🏼🚒

Finally, let’s talk about K2C’s phonics learning! In this new school year and semester, we have been reviewing the letter sounds from the beginning, as well as focusing on key areas such as formation of letters, blending of letters and segmenting. K2C have shown great interest and improvement , and have absolutely loved learning the actions and songs 😁😁!

It has certainly been a busy but fun-filled start to the semester!

See you next time!
