2023 摄影回顾 Photography Recap

Unlike many, due to returning to my old company for a new position, 2023 was not a fruitful year in photography for me. I only took a couple of vacations that lasted a few days and these are the only opportunities to go to two short trips outside of California in the US. Nevertheless, I put together a recap of what I captured this year to share with you!

I did more drone photography this year to get different angles that a camera would not have otherwise able to see in the bay area. Sadly I crashed my drone right before the year end. This makes my drone photos a lot more memorable. Hope you enjoy my photos and videos.

Started the year with some drone bird's eye photos that give a new perspective to the city of San Francisco. This one has a few iconic buildings during blue hour.

Pier 39 Fisherman's Wharf

Winter seascape, just in time for Valentine's Day with the heart shape wave movement wrapping a heart shaped rock

Of course I can't miss the first low fog opportunity at the Golden Gate Bridge

Took the weekend to see the windmills in the East Bay after some winter rain that made all the hills green. Lucky to see great light and color during sunset.

Stopped by Sacramento to see the swans in a cold winter morning.

Kissing Rock during high tide. What a powerful kiss!

My first time visiting the Cala Lilly Valley in Big Sur. Arrived early afternoon and saw crowds of people here more than flowers! Scouted around for the best patch of flowers for the foreground and waited patiently for 2.5 hours for the crowd to slowly walk away for sunset. I don't think I will come again!

We got some rare snow in high elevation mountains in the Bay Area this year. Made a quick trip to capture this once in a decade scenery before the snow melts.

Was also lucky to have beautiful storm clouds with the snow covered mountain. This may be common in other places but definitely rare in the Bay Area.

Never want to miss a good sunset forecast for my favorite seascape.

You know I always check the right tide to the right place for the best wave actions

Took advantage of the rain storm for this composition that I've not seen before. This is rushing water from a creek, not the typical beach waves

Catch the green hills in late spring before they start turning brown

Last year this building was under construction for maintenance. Missed the opportunity to shoot the cala lilly here during peak bloom for 2 years in a row. Definitely not going to miss it again this year, especially with the newly painted renovation of the building

Trying something new, shooting waves with a zoom lens. I like the fact that I don't need clouds or getting wet. All I need is sunny weather at Golden hour for these shots. What do you think?

And playing/practicing with ICM after the sun dips into the horizon

During May this year when the whole Bay Area photographers were visiting these fox families, I also joined them

An early June weekend getaway to see the Redwood with Rhododendron blooming. Was lucky to see some spectacular sun rays on the last day of the trip after sunrise.

The usual summer fog rolling on Mt Tam. Always mesmerizing to see this view

My first vacation of the Year in late June in Utah. This place is amazing.

Trying abstract with the zoom lens

Like another planet

They called this Mars

Last stop of Utah, Arches National Park. The sunrise light lit the rock in golden red

We had some good rain in the spring. Made a visit to Yosemite for some reflection shots. It was a one day trip for the moon bow. But I'm too lazy to edit.

On the way back from Yosemite, checked the weather and PlanIt Pro for the moon line up. Worth waiting here at 2am in the morning to sacrifice the whole night of sleep for this perfect condition. After just clicking the camera for a few shots the moon dipped into the clouds.

Back to the mesmerizing spot for some really great conditions before the summer comes to an end.

First winter low fog. Lucky it coincides with the Transamerica building lit in blue plus the beacon was on. You may have seen this classic view many times even with low fog, but for all these elements to be present, it's still extremely rare.

Back to winter seascape at my favorite beach with some really nice golden light. I called this photo Triple Gold! Golden hour at the Golden Gate Bridge in the Golden State!

Second trip of the year in December. First time to New Mexico exploring as far north as the Ship Rock and as south as the White San National Park.

The road going into the Bisti Badlands was quite wet from a snow storm a few days ago before the trip. Due to low temperature snow melts extremely slow. I had a few challenging hikes trying to find places in the mud. This is one of the biggest wings of the Three Wings.

Had a spectectacular sunrise the next morning going to the Cracked Eggs

And then shooting some Sandhill cranes on the way to the White Sands. Not my genre of photography but it's a lot easier than shooting from Sacramento since it's much closer.

Dance with Me

Ready to take off

Arrived at the White Sand and quickly learned due to rain the day before it actually helped greatly with the hike. Some really nice texture without footsteps

Shooting abstract with the long lens

And at last the golden light from sunset

This year I started doing timelapse and videos. Please enjoy the following short clips, a combination of drone videos and cell phone timelapses.

请按下面的连接看更多的摄影回顾合集:

2022 摄影回顾 Photography Recap

2021 摄影回顾 Photography Recap
