What kind of class is called International class? Our philosophy goes like this. English is the most international language in the world, so teaching English and teaching all kinds of subjects in English is first things first. Enabling the Chinese students to have proficiency in English will empower them to become a global Chinese.</p><p class="ql-block"><b style="color: rgb(255, 138, 0);"><u>ICC是国际课程班的简称。</u></b>什么样的班级被称为国际班?我们的理念是这样的,英语是世界上最国际化的语言,所以用英语教授英语和各种学科是首要的。让中国学生熟练掌握英语,才能助力他们真正成为全球化的中国人。</p><p class="ql-block">Toward this end, establishing two teams of English teachers is required for International Curriculum Class, foreign English teachers and Chinese English teachers, either of whom has their own advantages. Foreign teachers speak natural and idiomatic English and they themselves bring inter-culture naturally while Chinese English teachers have real experience in learning English as a foreigner and they can teach effectively with the crutch of the Chinese language.</p><p class="ql-block"><b style="color: rgb(255, 138, 0);"><u>国际课程班需要建立两支英语教师队伍</u></b>,外籍英语教师和中教英语教师各有所长。外籍教师讲的英语自然地道,他们自己也自然地带来了跨文化交流;而中国英语教师有作为一个外国人学习英语的真实经验,他们可以在汉语的拐杖作用下有效地教学。</p><p class="ql-block">The selection, integration and creation of international teaching materials are also crucial to the fruitful development of International Curriculum Class. We choose Kids’ Box as the language art textbook, for it’s an authoritative and systematic English course for Chinese children. We also translate all the National textbooks of different subjects into English because China National Curriculums of basic education is ahead of the world.</p><p class="ql-block">国际课程班卓有成效的发展,<b style="color: rgb(255, 138, 0);"><u>国际化教材的选择、整合和创编也至关重要</u></b>。我们选择剑桥Kids’ Box作为语言艺术教材,是因为它是一套针对中国儿童的权威、系统的英语教程。我们也把所有不同科目的国家教科书翻译成英语,因为中国国家基础教育课程是世界领先的。</p><p class="ql-block">Last but not least, teaching approaches are supposed to be internationalized as well. That’s why we have adopted immersive teaching, Project-based Learning , Task-based learning, Scouting and Mentorship so far, since the dominant approach in China is examination-oriented and knowledge indoctrination. </p><p class="ql-block">最后,<b style="color: rgb(255, 138, 0);"><u>教学方法也应该国际化</u></b>。这就是为什么我们到目前为止会采用沉浸式教学,基于项目的学习,基于任务的学习,童子军和导师制,因为在中国占主导地位的方法是以考试为导向和知识灌输。</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="color: rgb(237, 35, 8);"><u>Let’s get known about Immersion,Cross-culture and CLIL.</u></b></p><p class="ql-block"> The second layer of the meaning of ICC stands for Immersion, Cross-culture and CLIL.</p><p class="ql-block">让我们来了解一下ICC所代表的第二层意思,那就是沉浸式、跨文化及学科英语。</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="color: rgb(237, 35, 8);"><u>What is immersion?</u></b></p><p class="ql-block">Immersion is the approach in which students hear and speak the second language almost exclusively in the classroom. </p><p class="ql-block">There are different time periods for immersion education: </p><ol class="ql-block"><li>Early immersion (from 5 or 6 years old)</li><li>Middle immersion (from 9 or 10)</li><li> Late immersion (between the ages of 11 and 14)</li></ol><p class="ql-block">什么是沉浸式?</p><p class="ql-block">浸入式教学法是指学生几乎完全在课堂上听和说第二语言的方法。</p><p class="ql-block">浸入式教育有不同的时间段:</p><p class="ql-block">早期浸入式教育(从5、6岁开始)</p><p class="ql-block">中等浸入式(从9或10年级开始)</p><p class="ql-block">晚期浸入式教育(11岁至14岁)</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size: 22px; color: rgb(255, 138, 0);">Differing formats for immersion education</b></p><p class="ql-block">Complete immersion is when 100% of the class time is spent in the foreign language. The goals of complete immersion include becoming completely functional in the foreign language while mastering the subject areas being taught (e.g. math or science).</p><p class="ql-block">Partial immersion is when approximately 50% of the class time is spent learning subject matter in the foreign language. The goals are to become functionally proficient in the second language, to master subject content taught in the foreign languages, and to acquire an understanding of and appreciation for other cultures, but to a lesser extent than complete immersion programs.</p><p class="ql-block">浸入式教育的不同形式</p><p class="ql-block">完全沉浸式学习是指100%的课堂时间都是用外语进行的。完全浸入式学习的目标包括在掌握所学学科领域(如数学或科学)的同时,完全掌握外语。</p><p class="ql-block">部分浸入式是指大约50%的课堂时间用于学习外语的主题内容。其目标是成为功能上精通第二语言,掌握用外语教授的学科内容,并获得对其他文化的理解和欣赏,但在一定程度上低于完整的浸入式课程。</p> <p class="ql-block">Why Immersion in our school?</p><p class="ql-block">In an immersion program, learners will be totally immersed in the language by learning almost all school subjects, such as math, science and social studies in the target language, with the main purpose of developing learner’s language proficiency to the largest extent.</p><p class="ql-block">English education in China usually starts from Grade 3 in elementary schools. But the problem is after more than 10 years of English study, only a tiny portion of the learners have relatively higher language proficiency. The phenomenon of “Deaf English” is still prevalent. The students are asked to parrot and memorize the words and sentences mechanically in traditional English classrooms. They don’t have the language environment to fully understand, appreciate, absorb and apply the language they learn. It turns out that the words and sentences become meaningless and useless. Gradually, the students will lose interest in learning English.</p><p class="ql-block">在浸入式学习中,学习者将完全沉浸在语言中,用目标语言学习几乎所有的学科,如数学、科学和社会科学,其主要目的是最大程度地提高学习者的语言能力。</p><p class="ql-block">中国的英语教育通常从小学三年级开始。但问题是,经过十多年的英语学习,只有一小部分学习者具有相对较高的语言能力。“聋子英语”现象仍然普遍存在。在传统的英语课堂上,学生被要求机械地死记硬背单词和句子。他们没有充分理解、欣赏、吸收和应用所学习语言的语言环境,因此,事实证明,单词和句子变得毫无意义,毫无用处。渐渐地,学生会失去学习英语的兴趣。</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="color: rgb(237, 35, 8);"><u>What is Cross-cultur in ICC?</u></b></p><p class="ql-block">Cross-culture actually means cultivating the intercultural competence of the students, helping them to be able to communicate effectively in different cultural environments, build interpersonal relationships and adapt to local systems.</p><p class="ql-block">Intercultural competence comprises three aspects:</p><ol class="ql-block"><li> Communication competence </li><li> Cultural empathy </li><li>Establishing interpersonal relationship </li></ol><p class="ql-block">什么是ICC的跨文化?</p><p class="ql-block">跨文化实际上就是培养学生的跨文化能力,帮助他们能够在不同的文化环境中进行有效的沟通,建立人际关系,适应当地的社会环境。</p><p class="ql-block">跨文化能力包括三个方面:</p><p class="ql-block">1. 沟通能力</p><p class="ql-block">2. 文化移情</p><p class="ql-block">3. 建立人际关系</p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="color: rgb(237, 35, 8); font-size: 22px;">What is CLIL?</b></p><p class="ql-block">CLIL is short for Contents and language integrated learning, which means the “double focus” teaching mode of teaching non-language courses in foreign languages. The CLIL teaching concept is very close to how we originally learned our mother tongue, and it is considered a more natural way to develop language skills.</p><p class="ql-block">什么是CLIL?</p><p class="ql-block">CLIL是Contents and language integrated learning(内容与语言整合学习)的缩写,即用外语教授非语言类课程的“双焦点”教学模式。CLIL的教学理念非常接近我们最初学习母语的方式,它被认为是一种更自然的方式来发展语言能力。</p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="color: rgb(237, 35, 8); font-size: 22px;"><u>ICC=I Create the Contents</u></b></p><p class="ql-block">All roads lead to Rome, but there surely is a shortcut of them. There is never a definite way of teaching, but there must be a good way to be discovered. ICC is a innovative program invented by both Chinese and foreign teachers of Hainan Foreign Language School Affiliated to BFSU. It is Creative that keeps the international program dynamic, so the third layer of the meaning behind ICC is I Create the Contents.</p><p class="ql-block">ICC=我创建内容</p><p class="ql-block">条条大路通罗马,但总有一条捷径。教学从来没有一个确定的方法,但一定有一个好的方法被发现。ICC是由北京外国语大学附属海南外国语学校的中外教师共同发明的创新项目。正是创意使国际课程充满活力,所以ICC背后的第三层含义是我创造内容。</p>
