Recently, the status of foreign language learning as one of the major subjects in secondary schools has attracted much attention by the society. Without any investigation into the actual weight on each of the subjects, no comment for me can be easily made. However, I strongly believe our education should still pay more attention in terms of how to improve our children's comprehensive quality and broaden their horizons, so that they can not only keep the motherland in mind but even more so broaden their vision of the whole world. Only then can they keep pace with this fast changing world and become a generation with the innovative spirit and ability to surpass their predecessors!

The world is getting more and more complicated, but the globalization trend has also been constantly promoting the efficiency of cross-border economic flow of world population, resources, information and etc. The communication technology incredibly changing with each passing day has also made the lovesickness feeling by the ancient poets for the distance between the beginning and end of the Yangtze River no longer exist. Our world without much noticing has been shrinking into a smaller and smaller global village, crossing it just a step further. Nowadays as to where to live for the younger generation, it’s just a personal choice on their own and there’s hardly any family without any close relatives living overseas.

Karl Marx says “A foreign language is a weapon in the struggle of life”. It’s even more so nowadays foreign language learning obviously is not just a subject, but the tool essential for our future learning and communication, since it will be closely related to our improvement of any professional levels or future career!

Therefore, so long as our teaching level keeps pace with the times and lay a good foundation, particularly in basic phonetics , the continuous learning can not be always time-consuming or difficult. From my personal experience, they can be mutually complement each other, the learning a foreign language well and improving the level of our own mother tongue. In other words, the level of your own language determines the potential ability to learn the other. The key is how we can lay a good foundation and raise our children's interest in learning or take the initiative to learn, rather than seeing it as a negative burden.

The excellent translation on various important diplomatic occasions shows the top-level quality of the work. Even the Secretary of the United States once said on the spot that he would like to give a raise(salary) for the work done! However, while our domestic flight services keep improving, the English level as required for the perfection of its service and the brand has not been making much progress even during almost all my life long millions miles business traveling or journey!

The above two extremes show that our professional foreign languages studies are super, but there’s still a big room for improvement on both basic English teaching and learning in our primary and secondary schools. Only until all the teachers are able to lay well the foundation and make the phonetics accurate for their students so as to raise it along with the improvement of their mother tongue, can you regard it less important as the major subject !

In a word, reform and opening up is China's long-term national policy and for a very long time in future, we still need a language more common in international exchanges. Our economic development lies in the progress of science and technology, and the progress of science and technology depends much on the development of education and global-oriented talents continue to stand out in the days to come. Globalization therefore means at least your ability of bilingual in communication. We all think it necessary to reduce the burden of primary and secondary school students, but it’s actually a question of how to improve our efficiency in both teaching and learning of all the subjects rather than English only!
