Mommy prepare some animal cards in advance.

Have baby cover his/her eyes. Mommy imitate the animals' sound. Let baby guess who it is.

Such as, A crow says, 'Caw-caw-caw'.

An owl says,'Hoo-hoo-hoo'.

A donkey says, 'Heehaw-heehaw-heehaw'.

A horse says, 'Neigh-neigh-neigh'.

A bird says,' Chirp- chirp-chirp'.

A lion says, 'Roar....'.

Act it Out

Hooting Owl

(Prepare two small bottles and one big bottle)

P: An owl can make the sound…

K: Hoot, hoot.

P: Right. What can you use to make the sound "hoot"?

K: I can blow the bottles to make the sound.

P: I have an idea to make the sound "hoot". Use a plastic bottle. Blow across the top. Like this. Does it sound like an owl? Here you are, try it.

P: Here is a bigger one. Try it. Do they make the same sound?

P: This bottle is as small as this one. Try filling the bottles with water at different levels.

Blow across the tops. Do they make the same sound?

Make an Instrument/Guitar

(prepare some different-sized rubber bands and a tissue box)

1. Find an empty tissue box and six different-sized rubber bands.

p: here are some rubber bands/elastics with different sizes.

2.Stretch the rubber bands over the opening in plastic container/a tissue box.

3.Pluck one rubber band. As it vibrates, listen to the sound.

4. Put your hand on the rubber band. That stops the vibrations and stops the sound.

5. Pluck a different rubber band. It sounds different from the first rubber band because its vibrations are different.

6. Pluck each of the other rubber bands. Listen to the sounds. The thicker the rubber band, the lower the sound will be.

7. Pluck each rubber band and pretend you are playing a guitar. It will create music. Strum it like this. Can you hear the sound?

K: Dong, dong, dong.

P & K: "Little instrument, …dong, dong, dong. I can hear the little instrument, dong, dong, dong."

家里没有粗细不一样的皮筋，最后无奈到楼下超市要了几根。弹出来声音也没有很好听，可能这个皮筋太细太松，弹性不够😭

Tips:

● Bubbling Pot: Pour some milk into a shallow container and blow bubbles into it with a straw. It sounds like a bubbling pot.

● Breaking Glass: Drop some silverware onto a metal tray for a sound like breaking glass.

● Clock Bell: Try tapping large metal pot lids while holding them by the handle to create some bell sounds. Use metal spoons and wooden spoons to tap.

Make Music with Water Glasses/musical glasses

In this science experiment, we explore sound and pitch(音高) by turning glasses of water into musical instruments.

we need to gather the following:

• eight large water glasses all the same size没有那么多杯子，只找了三个
• a measuring cup
• a pencil

Sound waves themselves are invisible, but you can sometimes feel them, and you can see them when they bump into something solid and make it move.

The sound waves sound the same when the glasses are empty, but when you add water, it changes the size of the sound waves, because many of the sound waves created have to travel through the water before they can reach your ear.

This changes the pitch of the sound you are hearing. The more water, the lower the pitch. The less water, the higher the pitch.

Steps:

1.Pour one ounce of water into the first glass, two ounces into the second glass, three ounces into the third glass, and so on until all glasses have been used.

2.Tap each glass with the pencil.

3. Listen to the sound that comes from each glass. the less water in the glass the higher sound will be.

4.Tap on each glass. Go up the scale. Go down the scale. Pretend you are playing a tune on a xylophone.
