So today we are going to make something very cool called an oobleck.

那么今天我们要制作一种非常酷的东西 叫做欧不裂

For this expriment,you’ll need corn starch.A container.Water.A stir stick.A sifter.Food coloring and Some small plastic animals.
做这个实验 你需要玉米淀粉，一个容器，水，一根搅拌棒，一个筛子，食用色素，一些塑料小动物

So the first thing we have is some corn starch and I want to touch it.Does it feel like sand？
那么首先我们有的是一些玉米淀粉 我要摸一摸它。感觉像沙子吗？
No, actually it feels very soft, it feels like flour.

不 实际上感觉很柔软 像是面粉

Not like a flower, but like flour you use to make a cake or make a pie.It’s very, very soft.

But we need something else in there to make our oobleck, we need to pour in some water.
但是我们还需要别的东西来制作欧不裂 我们需要倒入一些水

Do we need to put all water inside now?
No, we don’t put all the water in at one time.

You should add the water slowly and use your fingers in there while you’re putting in the water to feel it.Then you’ll know when your oobleck is ready.
你应该慢慢的加水 当你倒水的时候用手指在那里感受。然后你会知道什么时候欧不裂就做好了

So first I will just add a little bit of water.Like that.
那么首先我只要加一点儿水，像这样

Then I’ll use my left hand here, and you just kind of move it around.Now I can see, and by touching I know I need more water.So we’ll put a little more water in there.And then we do the same thing.

Is it enough now?
I don’t think so, it’s still very crumbly.

See? You want to keep adding water and touching it until it sort of feels like glue.

OK, this feels good now and you can see it.

OK and then we just keep mixing it with your hands, this is the fun part.

Is that hard?
Sometimes it’s hard, if I hit it. It’s very hard.

But if I go slowly, it’s different. You can see there what happens.

It’s very hard on the top and it looks like glue.

And we’re gonna pick it up slowly with our hands and then you can squeeze it in your hand and then when you open your hand.

Then you can move fast and it sort of crumbles out of your hand, back in here.

And you see when you touch it with your fingers very strong, it’s very hard.

But if you go very slow, your fingers can go right into it.

So this is like a solid and a liquid at the same time, right?

And your hands get very messy.That’s okay, you can wash them after.OK, and now we’re gonna play with it.

And you see here I have some little animals.
You want a horse or a cow?
A horse. OK we’ll give you this nice gray horse.
And Let's put it in,oh,no,the horse fell over. Let me help you buddy.
So the horse can go right in, ah no, just, the horse fell over.

Our horse went right down into the oobleck.
我们的马直接淹没在了欧不裂里

What about our cow? Will he do the same thing?Maybe he can stand up.Oh his legs are right inside.Because they sit on the top very nice and slow so they can sink down.

If you throw the horse in, maybe the horse will, and bounce out.
如果你将马直接扔进去 可能这匹马会弹出去

Alright now, the next fun thing is we can make it colorful.This one is green I think.So we put a couple of drops.

And now, we’re just gonna sort of move it around.Again you can use your fingers.And try to mix it in.

And remember you have to go slowly, children, if you try to mix it very fast, it will be very hard.We can also pick it up and move it around like this.

Everything is moving.Be careful, you don’t spill it.

OK so now we have our green is everywhere.I think I want to use our big sifter.

And I’m gonna scoop some in.I’m gonna try to get our horse out of there.

Yes, our horse has fallen asleep in the oobleck.So I’m just gonna scoop and then pick it up, you can see it.

So we scoop it up like this. OK I got the horse.Then We just hold it there, oh look at that。

So all the oobleck is coming out of the sifter’s holes.It almost looks like noodles.

Yeah, oobleck noodles. Let’s get some more and do it one more time.Wow, here come the noodles.

So this is our oobleck.It’s very hard, but also very soft. So it’s a liquid and a solid.And we love the way it feels, right？

Why does the oobleck act the way it does?
为什么欧不裂会这样呢？
The oobleck is a non-Newtonian fluid.
欧不裂是一种非牛顿流体

A non-Newtonian fluid is a solid and a liquid at the same time.
非牛顿流体既是固体 同时也是液体

The oobleck will seem hard when you hit it.
当你击打它时 欧不裂会变硬

But like a thick liquid when you touch it slowly.
但是当你慢慢地触摸它时 它就是一种浓稠的液体
