Yesterday (5/15/2022) I went looking for the Devil’s Gulch Waterfalls again. I say “looking for” because the waterway is reshaped after each major rain by runoffs so it is difficult to find. But, of course, we know roughly where it is. The waterfalls is good but not good enough to spend so much time to find it. It is the difficult road condition, which required crossing the running streams multiple times and there was no signs or trails leading to the falls that post a challenge worthy of an adventure. So, here we go.

Along the way we saw a lot of wildflowers, nature and man-made arts and trash.

Crows falling in love. I know Chinese don’t like crows because they forestall bad omens, but westerners admire their intelligence.

Decorating a dead tree stump with a few rocks and you will create a strange animal [

I'm thinking, which way do we go?

Like many other mountain trails this route is dotted with nice trees and wildflowers.

But unique to this route, which other routes do not have, are the rocks-beautiful rocks!

And here are some examples of the decorative rocks.

This boulder looked almost like jade, isn’t it?

Along this river there are still many people making a living by panning for golds. This particular site looks like the owner has abandoned it . Or maybe he is perished somewhere. No one knows.

Amazingly, even living such a rough life, this person still brought a book to read. Now, that commands my respects🫡 .

The site below is still active .

When encountered a gold mining campsite like this, try to stay as far away as possible. Miners often carry guns to protect their treasures…

After an exhausting and difficult search we found the waterfall’s entry way, circling red in picture below.

So, we decided to record some landmarks we can find it easily the next time and shared with others. Otherwise, maybe this waterfalls will be lost and people hear about it only in stories.

This rock marks the place where we crossed to the other side of the creek, and stay on that side until we reach the waterfall’s entry point.

We tied a rope nearby to call attention to the entry. This rope should last for 20-30 years long.

This rock is just outside of the waterfall’s outlet.

After finding the outlet, the hard work continued. There was no trail existing. We must follow the sound of water and cut our way through to the falls.

Above looks like an outside fireplace, built by a romantic outdoor lover.

And, finally, we find it!

It’s not a big waterfall but it’s ours. We did not encounter anyone on the way in and out, and for the long time we stayed at the waterfalls we were the only party there. Maybe we were the only three people visited this waterfalls in that day and Sunday is a very busy day for hiking.

Conversely, at the nearby well known hiking destination known as The Bridge to Nowhere, there were hundreds if not thousands of people hiking there. Soaking in mountain springs is free but if you’re tired of living and want to jump off the bridge, it will cost you money. It was $120 per jump, which involved several minutes of preparation and about one minute to leap off…
