十六世纪时，在法国诗人中间风行起这种被称为“维昂纳尔”（villanelle）的诗体。它起源于意大利的农田歌，在意大利语中，农民一词就是villano。十九行诗是一种在形式上要求极为严格的诗歌，全诗19行，分成6节，第一节的第一句（第1行）重复出现在第6行、第12行、第18行；而第一节的第三句（第3行）重复出现在第9行、第15行、第19行。在韵律上也有很高的要求：前面五节必须是aba,aba,aba,aba,aba的形式，只有最后一节可有所变化，可用bbaa/cdaa/abaa等形式。

寺庙兰溪的旁，

溪水向西流淌。

山下兰草浸润在溪水中，松林沙路被雨水冲洗得一尘不染，傍晚时分细雨萧萧布谷声声。

谁说人生就不能回到少年时期？ 门前的溪水都还能向西边流淌！不要在老年随便感叹时光的飞逝啊！

注释

蕲qí水：县名，今湖北浠水县。

浸：泡在水中。

萧萧：形容雨声。

子规：又叫杜宇、杜鹃、催归。

无再少：不能回到少年时代。

白发：老年。

唱黄鸡：感慨时光的流逝。因黄鸡可以报晓，表示时光的流逝。

After versing I' ll be proud to laugh at th' sea blue.

If the fame and fortune could exist long for aye;

The Han river should flow back to the northwest, too.
