疫情肆虐上海，如何了却烦恼？突然萌生一念头：尝试用英语做一个美篇，对那段在韦博的学习做个小结，分享给我的老师和同学们，也算是一种苦中作乐吧。

The COVID19 in Shanghai, forced me

to stay at home and not able to go

anywhere for more than one month.

I started to do something about

myself. Finally, I made a summary

about my WEB life with so many

teachers and classmates.

I am appreciative of all the people

I mentioned in my article(美篇). Thanks

for their enjoying and sharing.

One day in summer I got an E-Mail (

advertising）from Web Internacional.

When I knew the site was not far from

my home, I Decided to join it

immediately. At that time, I became

the oldest student(63Y) in WEB Hefei.

A tutor, Juliet, she had graded

my English level as T.

Later, she became my first tutor.

"Winnie" has been my English name

cince then.

（为方便外教辨识，起了个与自己名字相似发音的英文名）。

From Aug. 2014 to Sept. 2016, I

learned English in WEB from level T

(Threshold) to I (Intermediate) .

《马克吐温和他的汤姆》

＜Mark Twain and his Tom＞

“Tom!”

No answer.

“Tom!” cried Aunt Polly again.

No answer.

“I wonder where that boy’s gone.TOM!”

These short sentences bring me to

enter into <The Adventures of Tom

Sawyer>. It was written by Mark Twain

who was born in Florida in 1835. He is

one of the famous writers in the world.

At the beginning of 1980s, I bought

this novel from Shanghai XinHua Book

store. At that time, I couldn't wait to

reading it.

In Mark Twain’s book, I came to Tom

Sawyer’s little world. I began to know

Tom. He was a funny, naughty child,

full of mischief, clever, honest and

brave. It was especially shown as

follows: “The fence is white washed”----

He earned a lot of other children’s

admire and let them to help him print

the fence which Aunt Polly punished

him. He pretended sickness to stay

away from school. Tom and his partner

quarreled, fought, went into the

graveyard, played pirates, dug for

treasure, and went to the haunted

house. Tom evidenced in the court just

like a hero.

Between the lines, Mark Twain showed

his wit and humors. The novel made

me smile, worried, frightened,

lauph……

all for the lovely boy----Tom.

The novel I read is a simplified version,

and I find some good views in Mark

Twain’s description. My favorite

paragraph is:

“Away in the flaming sunshine, Cardiff

Hill lifted its soft green side through a

veil of heat, purple with distance. A

few birds floated on lazy wings high in

the air. No other living things were

visible, except some cows, and they

were asleep”.

The words describes a picture rises

before my eyes. I lose myself in the

imagination.

《新西兰，我的梦》

<New Zealand, My dream>

It is my dream of travelling in New

Zealand, enjoying the beautiful

scenery and different seasons,

different climate, different cultures

in southern hemisphere.

Who would be travelling with me?

That’s important. Group members

should be familiar with me, easygoing,

humorous, good at photography and

have travelling experience.

Taking a camera and map, our group

started on December 11th, 2014, as it

was summer in New Zealand.

Now, let me invite you to share the

pictures taken in New Zealand.

Shantytown, is known as a gold mining town. The old steamtrain, is still

carrying the travelers pass through the

old days.

Fox Glacier is one of the world's lowest glaciers, less than 300 meters above

sea level. Amazingly, the ice is blue.

The yellow-eyed penguins live in the

Otago peninsula. The Maori called

them Noise Shouter. The reserve made

sheds for the little cute guys.

Lake Pukaki showing special color of

blue, just like milk, is the result of

erosion by Tasman and Hook Glacier.

Rotorua is known for its geothermal

activity. Fortunately, we caught the

geysers eruption. High temperature

vapor suddenly rushed out of the

spring mouth, instantly lose more than

30 meters of water column, such a

grand sight!

In TEPUIA, the buildings of many woodcraft carving seem to be telling the

indigenous Maori ‘s totem.

Auckland, is known as the city of sail

boat. Mt. Eden, a sleeping volcano, is

the highest point in Auckland. From

the top of the hill, you can overlook

the panoramic view of Auckland. It is

no wonder that it is listed the third of

the world's most livable cities.

We can’t forget all the delicacies such

as salmon, cray fish, elephant fish

chips, cherries and so on. We can’t

forget the silver fern is New Zealand’s

national symbol. We can’t forget the

Kiwi is the national bird which is also

listed as an endangered species. The

Kiwi fruit is sour, sweet and tasty. Kiwi

is also as the nickname of New

Zealand.

Gone for 13 days and nights, we

enjoyed the sunshine, fresh air, blue

sky, white clouds, snowy mountains,

charming lakes, grasslands, the

seashore and the lupines. We laughed

the entire time. Such a memorable

journey, is still vivid in my mind.

Oh, New Zealand, paradise on earth!

《故乡》

（蒙城县魏松林孜）

<Hometown>

There is a small village located in the

northwest of Mengcheng County,

named Weisonglinzi. It’s my second

hometown. Those familiar names,

familiar faces and familiar local accents

always appear in my dreams.

Jinming Wei, he who used to be a

director of our village, is 87 years old

now but still spirited. He picked me up

to the village on Jan.11, 1969. He is

always a silent man but used to

manage the farm work all year round.

He is a respected leader. His figure of

pulling cart has been still in my mind.

His wife, a kind-hearted woman,

always treated me like her child. Once I

caught malaria, sometimes feeling cold

and sometimes hot. It was Mrs.Wei

who took good care of me.

Xiaozhi, one of my girlfriends, was

really a pretty girl with big eyes and

fair skin. She always helped me with

needle work and farm work. I even

made a pair of cloth shoes with her

help, very nice! The first summer, we

caught worms in the legumes field. I

was scared to cry seeing green worms.

She helped me to catch those ugly

worms.

I will never forget how the villagers

taught us to walk on the frozen

ground，how to fetch water from the

big well, how to burn the big pot, how

to cook meal, how to express our

etiquette and hospitality to the guests:

"Welcome! Take a seat, have lunch

with us." We learned a lot not only

from school but also the countryside.

I have been back to the village several

times in recently years, because of the

love for this village. Having stayed

there for 22 months, having seen and

done so much in the countryside,

have made me more optimistic and

confident.

I have bought the primary school of

this village some book, only want to

do something for the villagers and

their descendants. Hopping the

children would gain more knowledge

and serve the people well later.

Now, everything has changed:

Each family has its own 2-3 story

building. The villagers use tap water

instead of well water. Some modern

household appliances have been used.

The villagers cook meal with gas. They

use machines for sowing, harvest, and

have 4-wheel carts for transportation.

Look! Xinya is carrying a big pumpkin

and smiling. He is now dealing with a

variety of business: poultry, livestock,

vegetables, and so on. Most of the

villagers live in happiness.

Oh, Weisonglinzi, my second

hometown! I will see you again in the

rest of my life. Wish you would be

better in the future.

Acceptance speech

Year and a half ago, I went to Web, my

life has been changed. It was Web,

that offered me a nice environment for

study. A colorful world was displayed

in front of me. Thanks for all of the

tutors and staffs in Web. You let me

get more knowledge, even a smarter

way of English learning. Web, lets me

feel young and be happy. Web, helps

me to realize my English dream.

Listen carefully, read loudly, repeat

frequently. There is no shortcut on the

way to better English.

Books, are good friends of human.

Never refuse to read various books.

Knowledge is power! The prior

knowledge, life experience and cultural

awareness would make us get better

and enjoy the learning English.

To be worthy of the name, there is still

a long way to achieve the honor of

being “Excellent Student”. According

to a Chinese saying,,” There should be

a teacher among three walkings.”,

which means we should learn from

others. It is never too late and never

too old to learn.

《交流沟通的故事》

<The Story of Correspondence>

Progress in the field of

communications never seems to stop.

The delivery methods have evolved:

from carrier pigeons to mailman, from

messengers to today’s information

superhighway.

Correspondence between the sellers

and buyers also had been in evolving.

As a foreign trade staff, I have

witnessed this historical period in

recent decades.

Before 1980s, if we asked for or

conveyed information, made or

accepted an offer, concerning

negotiation of business, we would

clatter typewriters to write a letter.

When the letter was done, put the

letter into an envelope, sealed it and

put on the stamp…then took the letter

to the post office. If your clients were

in Europe or America, you could only

expect to the transaction to be

finished at least in several months.

If it was urgent, such as shipping

advice, we would go to the telegraph

office to send a telegram (in business

it is also called cable) .Cable is a short

message, we could send it to most

of the world efficiently. The cable draft

should be written as short as possible,

it was charged by the number of the

words used. Using fewer words to

convey the same idea meant saving

money. For example:”We do not want

July shipment” would be “July

shipment unwanted”. This business

was stopped in 1980s globally.

Around the mid 1980’s, we began to

use telex, a system for sending and

receiving message by telephone line,

and this machine is called a

teleprinter . Telex language usually

used words in abbreviations, which

can reduce the time of pressing the

keyboard so as to shorten the time of

transmission. Such as RCVD, ASAP,

SHPT, TKS, B-RGDS, etc. The telex

opens for 24 hours without anyone

staying in the office. Every morning,

the business staffs would gather

around the telex machine, which

spat out many slices of information.

They could not wait until the

distribution by the messenger from

the general manager’s office arrived,

and check the message from their

clients all over the world. Now this

business method is mostly used

among the banking industry only,

when they issue a letter of credit for

the applicant.

In the late 1980s, the fax machine

came out, which stood out both in its

function and easy operation, so that it

rapidly replaced the telex.

In 1996, at East China Trade Fair, I

heard a guest from the USA describe

the information superhighway. I was

puzzled at that time. Unexpectedly,

2 years later, I had been able to send

E-mail to my client. The first browser

I used is named “Netscape”, and we

used dial-up Internet access. When

the bell rang, we were eager to wait

for the telephone line to be connected,

and if the mail had been sent, we

should cut off the connection rapidly,

cause the line was busy when we were

sending the mail.

These days we get our information

from all kind of media.

Almost everyone of us is using

computers and smart phones. We can

get in touch with our clients or

producers by E-mail, cell phone, MSN,

QQ and Wechat. All the messages and

documents can be instantly available.

It couldn’t be imagined in the past.

Few people write today. it’s a pity that

we can’t see the beautiful

handwriting anymore, because of the

internet. I am thinking of the post

office, because its function is

shrinking, and it seems only for the

philatelists instead of correspondence

and delivery.

Can't post be replaced by a new thing? Would a more efficient, more speedy

thing be coming? I’m hoping, I'm

waiting.

After leaving for Shanghai in Oct.

2016, I quit my part-time job to enjoy

my retirement，and began to do the

things I like.

I visited so many countries and

regions. I enjoyed the good views and
