A shooting star is really a small piece of rock or dust that hits Earth's atmosphere from space. It moves so fast that it heats up and glows as it moves through the atmosphere. Shooting stars are actually what astronomers call meteors. Most meteors burn up in the atmosphere before they reach the ground. However, once in a while a meteor is large enough than some of it survives and reaches Earth's surface. Then it is called a meteorite.

2.How big are the pieces in meteor showers or shooting stars?

The particles that enter our atmosphere during a meteor shower or when you see a shooting star are usually very small. Some are no larger than a grain of sand. Thousands of these particles enter our atmosphere each day and most of them burn up well before they can reach the ground.

3.Where do most meteorites fall?

Since most of Earth's surface is made up of oceans (about 70%), most meteorites fall into the sea.

4.What is a meteor shower

As a comet travels close to the Sun, it heats up and part of the comet vaporizes. After a comet has orbited the Sun many times, a lot of small pieces of the comet are left along the comet's path. A meteor shower happens when Earth passes through the path of a comet. When this happens, the bits of comet debris, most no larger than a grain of sand, create streaks of light in the night sky as they burn up in Earth's atmosphere. Bits of debris which enter Earth's atmosphere are called meteors. On any night, there are several small meteors which shoot across the sky. However, during a meteor shower, tens to hundreds of meteors can be seen each hour. Many of these meteor showers can be predicted and occur at the same time each year.

转化为孩子可理解的语言

M: honey, do you know what is a meteor shower?

normally, at a night we just can see several meteor shooting across the sky, but at some time we can see thousands of meteors shooting across the sky, we call that meteor shower. Most of meteors are burnt up before they land on the ground. But a little bit of them survive falling through the earth’s atmosphere, we call them Meteorite

5-The Sun & Earth & Moon

M: honey, I will show you a picture. Our sun is a star. It is a huge ball of hot gas that gives off heat and light. It is made of gases called hydrogen and helium. The outside of the sun is 11,000 degrees. The sun’s surface is about 100times as hot as the hottest day on earth. And the sun is much bigger than the earth. The sun looks small to us because it is so far away, about 93million miles away from earth. The sun is the center of our solar system. The solar system 太阳系is the sun and the system of planets that go around it

The moon

The moon orbits the earth. It means that the moon moves around the earth. It takes about 28 days for the moon orbit the earth. It is the second brightest object in the sky, but it does not produce light of its own. The moon reflects the light from the sun and bounce back to earth.

the surface of the moon is covered with large mountains, valleys and deep craters. There is no atmosphere around the moon. During the day temperatures can reach 120’C and at night can drop to an icy -230’C. No animals or plants could survive on the moon.

The Earth

The earth is our home. Most of the earth is covered by ocean. The earth orbits the sun. It takes about 365 days for the earth orbits the sun. It is the only known planet that has got life on it. Life can’t survival on any of planets. That is why we must care for our planets.

6- The solar system

The sun is at the center of our solar system, and there are 8 planets move round the sun in circular or in elliptical orbit. Our earth is the third planet from the sun, and the only known planet in the solar system with plants, animals and people.

网课拓展游戏——where do the things grow

M: honey, if you want to grow well and strong. What should you do?

M: Excellent! You should eat the healthy food, sleep well and do exercise. But there are lots of food round us. What is the healthy food?

You are right! Fruit and vegetables are healthy food. Do you know why? They are rich in Vitamin that can help us grow well. So we should eat some fruit and vegetables every day.

M: here are some fruit and vegetables. They grow in the ground or in the vine or the bush or in the tree. But I am confused about that. Balian, can you teach me one by one please.

M: Good job! One day you invite your friend George to your home for dinner. But George is a vegetarian. What should you do for the dinner?
