There is a new girl in Matthew's class today. She sits at the back of the class.

今天，马修所在的班级新来了一个女孩。她坐在教室的后面。

The teacher asks Matthew to work with Lorna.

老师让马修和洛娜一起完成活动任务。

Their question is about transport. How do you get to school?

他们拿到的问题是关于交通的。你怎么来上学？

Matthew comes to school by car. He ticks the box.

马修乘小汽车来上学。他在问卷上的方框里打了个对勾。

"How do you get to school?" asks Matthew. "I walk," says Lorna. "I think everyone should walk if they can."

马修问：“你怎么来上学？”“我走路。”洛娜说，“我认为如果可以的话，每个人都应该走路上学。”

Matthew and Lorna take the question paper around the class. Everyone has to tick a box.

马修和洛娜在全班进行问卷调查。每个人都得在方框里打对勾。

Matthew counts the ticks and Lorna makes a bar chart. "Good work!"

马修负责数打对勾的数量，洛娜制作了一张条形统计图。“做得好!”

But Lorna is not happy. "Look how many children come to school by car!" She says.

但是洛娜并不开心。她说：“看呀， 这么多孩子都乘小汽车来上学!”

Matthew looks. Nine children come by car. Only six children walk.

马修看了看。九个孩子乘小汽车上学。只有六个孩子走路上学。

Lorna is upset. "Most cars use petrol. It is bad for the environment!" she says.

洛娜很难过。她说：“大多数小汽车使用汽油。汽油污染环境!”

Lorna asks the teacher, "Can we take the question paper to other classes?" "Yes, of course."

洛娜问老师：“我们可以在其他班级进行问卷调查吗？”“当然可以。”

Matthew and Lorna find out that lots of children come to school in cars and buses. They make another bar chart.

马修和洛娜发现，很多孩子都乘小汽车或者公共汽车来学校。他们制作了另一张条形统计图。

The teacher asks Matthew and Lorna to show their work to the class. "Lots of children come by car."

老师让马修和洛娜向全班同学展示他们的工作成果。“许多孩子乘小汽车来上学。”

Everyone talks about the bar chart. They all have different ideas. "It's too far to walk to school." "You have to pay attention when you cross the road." "Walking keeps you healthy.""I could walk."

大家都在讨论这张条形统计图。他们有不同的想法。“路程太远了， 不能走路来上学。”“过马路的时候必须特别小心。”“走路可以保持健康！”“我可以走路来上学。”

But they all think that more children should walk to school. "I'm going to walk!" "Me too!"

但是他们都认为应该让更多的孩子走路来上学。“我要走路来上学!”“我也要！”

That night, Lorna has an idea. She tells Matthew. Matthew tells the teacher. The teacher tells the head teacher.

那天晚上，洛娜有了一个想法。他告诉了马修。马修告诉了老师。老师告诉了校长。

Two weeks later, the children are trying a new way to get to school. "Here! You must wear this!"

两周后，孩子们开始尝试一种新的上学方式。“给你! 你一定要穿上这个!”

They go by bus. It is a Walking Bus!
