A farm is a piece of land used to grow plants and/or raise animals for food. People who grow these plants or raise these animals are called farmers. This type of work is called farming.

Farming is an important work , because everyone needs food and clothing to survive.

Farms produce all kinds of plants, animals, wool and cotton that people eat and use throughout the world.

Long years before, lots of family lived on a small farm. They raised almost everything they ate and sold their remaining crops（庄稼） and/or animals.

Farmers work long, hard hours.

The use of tractors and other modern farm equipment has sharply reduced the need for farm workers.

Today’s farmer is not just an expert in agriculture and livestock（畜牧业）, but they also need to be successful businessmen.

Horses do lie down to sleep every now and then but they can also get a really good solid sleep by simply locking their knees (just standing straight legged, knees not bent) and shutting their eyes. This ‘knee lock’ means they don’t fall over while they’re snoozing. Why not see how long we can ‘sleep’ standing up? Shut your eyes, straighten your legs and try to keep standing stock still.

What is a habitat?
A habitat is a special place where a plant or animal lives. Just like you have a home or place to live, so do animals and plants. When we talk about an animal's or a plant's home it is more like a neighborhood than a “house.” An animal needs five things to survive in its habitat:

food
water
shelter (protection from danger or wind rain and hot sun,etc.)
air
a place to raise its young

Animals require different amounts of space. Habitats can be big like a forest or they can be much smaller like a burrow. Some other animals need only a small amount of space and can put up with neighbors that live close by.Just like you have to go to the store to get food, an animal leaves its “shelter” to get the things they need to live. If the animal's needs aren't met, it will move to a different habitat.Different animals need different habitats. A fish, for example, needs clean water in which to live.
