April 22 is World Earth Day. It's a day for everyone to care about the Earth. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970（50 years ago）, when a United States senator from Wisconsin organized a national demonstration to raise awareness about environmental issues. Rallies took place across the country and, by the end of the year, the U.S. government had created the Environmental Protection Agency. By 1990, Earth Day was an event celebrated by more than 140 countries around the globe.

世界地球日即每年的4月22日，是一个专为世界环境保护而设立的节日，旨在提高民众对于现有环境问题的意识，并动员民众参与到环保运动中，通过绿色低碳生活，改善地球的整体环境。1970年的4月22日，美国第一次举行了大规模的‘地球日’活动，人们通过集会、游行、宣讲等方式，呼吁所有人都行动起来，保护地球。这次活动促使美国政府采取了一些治理环境污染的措施。到了1990年4月22日，全世界有140多个国家开始举行多种多样的环境保护宣传活动，从此‘地球日’成为了‘世界地球日’。

Can we live on Mars or other planets?

No! The earth is the only just right planet for us to live on. The earth is the only home for human beings. The Earth provides many resources.

Renewable可再生的

Some resources, like the sun and wind, are renewable. They can be replaced during a human lifetime.

Nonrenewable不可再生的

Others such as coal and oil, are nonrenewable resources. When they are used up, there will be no more.

The actions of people can pollute resources（air pollution，water pollution，dirt pollution，light pollution and noise pollution).

So the earth is getting warmer and the ice at the north pole is melting. Polar bears are losing their home.More and more lands are being flooded. Our earth environment is being polluted. We human beings are losing our home too. And resources are less and less.

What can we do to slow down the melting？What can we do to save our earth？

Conserving/protecting resources helps. Cleaning up pollution makes the environment better. Anyone can take a part in making the world cleaner by reducing, reusing and recycling.

There are many ways I can help the Earth. How to save resources and reduce pollution？Probably by reducing，reusing and recycling.

日常生活中方方面面都可能会涉及到，随时学以致用。

Turn off the lights/TV/computer/toys关灯 when you don't need them.

Collect stuff to recycle! 垃圾回收做环保!

(Sort the waste垃圾分类 into recyclable waste，perishable waste易腐垃圾，harmful waste有害垃圾and other waste）

Green travel（by bike，by bus，by subway，by walking...）绿色出行

Don't waste food (Save my leftovers) 剩下食物要打包

How to protect our environment

Do not throw rubbish onto the ground. Do not waste water. Use both sides of paper when you write. Stop using plastic bags for shopping. Make classrooms less noisy.

We don't need to do big things—we can start out/with small.

Remember the 3 “R”： Reuse, Reduce, Recycle

1)Reduce：To use less of something

It is easy to reduce, or to use fewer resources. Turn the lights and TV off when you leave a room. You might suggest walking or riding your bike or taking a bus or taking a subway instead of being driven somewhere. All are ways to conserve/protect oil and gas.

There are many ways you can reduce the amount of waste you create.

Say no to disposable/dɪˈspəʊzəbəl/ 一次性的 shopping bags. Bring your own reusable ones instead.

Choose products that have the least amount of packaging最少的包装.

Buy unpackaged items in loose bins when available可以找到的.

Use what you already have instead of buying something new.

2)Reuse：To use an item again

You Can reuse resources, or use them again.Fix old clothes or toys.Use old bags or carts. Does your family own a used car? That's reusing resources.

To reuse means to continue using the products you have,instead of disposing of them处理它们 and buying new ones.

Purchase/buy reusable,rather than disposable,products such as mugs, dishes, cloth,napkins and mental cutlery餐叉 instead of paper cups, plates,and napkins,and plastic utensils器皿.cutlery /ˈkʌtlərɪ/ Cutlery餐具🍴 consists包含 of the knives, forks, and spoons that you eat your food with.

Use reusable containers, like water bottles and soap containers, whenever possible.

When you must use them ，take only as many single-use items like paper napkins.

Mend clothing and repair what you can so that they can be reused.

Sell or donate/give away used clothing and toys instead of throwing them out.

Use both sides of paper when printing from your computer.

3)Recycle：To make new items from old ones

You can also recycle. Recycling uses a resource by breaking it down and making something new.Paper, glass, plastic, and many metals can be recycled.

Many products are recyclable, meaning they can be made into other products.

Find shops that accept products like used batteries, motor oil,paint cans,plastic bags,and cell phones,and take these items there when you are finished using them.

Place all recyclable items,such as glass, aluminum铝, steel钢, iron铁，paper and plastic,in the appropriate/proper合适的 containers around your home.

Buy things made from recycled materials,like some bottles, cans, bags, paper, glass and dishware/ˈdɪʃˌwɛə/ 餐具.

Care of the Earth

The Earth is our home. We must take care of it. We care for our homes by keeping them clean.

So, how do we keep them clean? We have to deal with our waste in a wise way.

Waste is everything that we can't use. we throw it away. Plastic bottles, soda cans, banana peels are all waste.

What can we do about them?

There are three things we can do about them:

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

1）Reduce means to make less.

We can use less of the things that don't break down easily and quickly.

We can borrow something that we need for a short time, we don't have to buy it.

We can walk or ride a bus instead of going in a car. Or we can ride with someone else.

We can use regular plates and cups. We can avoid using paper and plastic ones.

We can use our own shopping bags. We don't have to use plastic. Plastic bags take hundreds of years to break down.

2）Reuse means to use again.

We can fix things instead of throwing them away. If we are using something, we can alway give it to someone else.

We can give away our old toys and clothes to the people who need.

Cans, boxes and plastic containers can be reused. We can use them to keep things in.

We can put our lunches in containers, not plastic bags.

3）Recycle means to use something old to make someting else.

Old cans make new cans. Old papers make new papers. Old plastic make new toys. We can buy things that made of recycle materials.

Let us now drag these waste to their suitable containers.

Recycling Bin, the trash can or the compost bin.

The rotten fruits and tomato should be taken into the compost bin.

The diaper and pen go to the trash can.

Newspaper, bottle and soda can go to the recycling bin.

What are other ways to care of our earth?

We can save our natural resources.

These are the things that nature we use. We use water, food, air, plants, and energy. What are the ways we can save them?

You can save water when you take a shower. Try to use less water. Turn the water off when you are not using it.

You can collect the rain water with rain buckets. Use it for watering a garden. Use it for washing things outside.

We can plant a garden to help the earth.

We can make compost for our gardens. That means collecting the plant materials you don't use. Compost help your garden soil. You can collect banana peels, apple cores and other things in a bucket, and mix it into the soil. Worms will help break these things down. Worms are nature's recyclers.

Did you know that trees help clean the air?

Trees give us oxygen the gas we need to breathe. Trees take carbon dioxide which is not good for us. Paper comes from trees. We can use less paper. We can use both sides of a paper. This will help save some trees.

We can save energy in many ways.

We can turn off lights when not needed.

We can turn off TVs and computers when no one is using them.

There are many ways you can help to take care of the earth.

You are the earth most important natural resource.

Reuse means to use again.

Reduce means to use less of something.

Recycle means to make new items from the old ones.

Look at these cards and place them into three groups.

活动9: 地球日主题小桌游

3R（Reduce,Reuse,Recycle) 游戏，通这这个游戏，旨在唤醒孩子们的环保意识。

素材中包括两类卡片，一种是正面的、积极的号召保护地球的卡片，抽到卡片后，可以按卡片指示前进；另一面是消积的、破坏地球环境的卡片，抽到卡片后，按卡片指示倒退。准备一个骰子，轮流投掷，每移到一个循环使用标志就可以抽取一张卡片。
