1. Spring Festival Couplets

M: The Spring Festival Couplets, also called door couplets are used to express good wishes of the New Year.

Usually we buy the door couplets from the store. But today we will write couplets on our own. Traditional couplets are done with ink and brush.

Irene's mommy prepared black ink and red paper for us. Because couplets are always written in black ink on red paper, which is bright and elegant.

You can choose your favorite lines then we will write them together. As for the contents, most people will choose to express the auspiciousness and wishes for the coming year.

Finished! We can paste them on the two sides of the doors. Pasting couplets is not an easy job. Usually, they should be pasted before New Year’s Eve, and the best time is between 13:00 and 15:00 on the 29th of lunar December.

The correct pasting order is: upper scroll → lower scroll → horizontal scroll.
