When I entered in SISU and had the first English listening lesson,I was amazed to find that there are such difference between high school’s listening exercise and English listening lessons in SISU. Though the videos in 21VOA.com are slow and clear for us to understand, I still can’t figure out many crucial details in dialogues and what I mastered is only the main meaning. So I often made mistakes in the following exercises. Moreover, when it comes to the notes-taking, I just tried to write down everything that I had heard, which was not an effective way and often make me in a hurry.

This picture shows that I wrote down every word of the video in the after-class listening which provided me with enough time to repeat and repeat again.

Then in the English listening class,I got some suggestions about English listening from Mr Mao:

1. Listen the whole for several times first to have a basic understanding of the outline, and then pay more attention to the details to enrich the understanding.

2. Notes-taking should combine English and Chinese, in which way we can write quickly.

When we are taking notes ,we should distinguish between the important content and the less important, something we can remember in mind and something we tend to forget.

Only in this way can we take notes effectively.

So I followed the suggestions and gradually I found that there’re some changes in my notes. At least I added to more Chinese and didn’t write down every word. And I can recall the general contents from my content!

However, to be honest, there are still some problems in my English listening:

1.I still tend to leave out some details, even some important details and I couldn’t figure out most names and places.

2.When I meet with the familiar words, sometimes I can’t get their meanings quickly, which really annoys me and slow down my speed of notes-taking.

Just as the saying goes“Practice makes perfect”,I will listen more videos to improve my English listening.
