Mother's Day is coming. It's a holiday when we honor all mothers and express to them our sincere gratitude for the hardships they bear in bringing up a child. It's a special day on which children give cards and gifts to thank their mother as a sign of love for them.

Most countries celebrate it on the second Sunday in May. Nowadays, more and more people celebrate the Mother's Day. This year, the Mother's Day falls on May 10th. Now let's know something about Mother's Day together.

The Origin Of Mother's Day

The tradition to celebrate Mother's Day started from ancient Greece, on January the eighth, the ancient Greeks paid their respect to the mother of the gods. But at that time, the worship of the goddess was just a superstition. It's completely different from the respect of the motherhood. While in the United States, Canada and some other countries, it is every year the second Sunday in May, a number of other countries dates were the same. On this day mothers often receive gifts.

Giving Gifts To Mothers

Today, millions of people observe Mother's Day in some way. They buy Mother's Day greeting cards and flowers. Most cards show pictures or hearts or other things that people feel are linked to being a mother.

Together with cards are flowers on the big day. People present their mothers a bunch of carnation and hemerocallis flowers. Carnation stands for a healthy, great, holy, loving mother. Hemerocallis flowers mean that mothers will be away from sorrow and be happy everyday.
