猫科动物复习

Here's a question…what is the difference between cheetah, leopard and jaguar /ˈdʒæɡjʊə/ 美洲虎print?

What about Ocelot/ˈɒsɪˌlɒt/豹猫, do you even know what kind of animal that is?

Well, here it is…

Cheetah spots are equally spaced, solid black dots.

Leopard print is more complex. They have a golden brown coat with black shapes that resemble a horseshoe or circle.we say It has /rəʊˈzɛt/ Plain rosettes with no central spot in the middle, and more densely packed.

We typically never use the term “Jaguar Print”, but we can certainly see the difference in the pattern! It is defined by a larger “horseshoe” shape /rosettes with black spots inside,as well as a darker thicker outline.

The ocelot print is another pattern that is commonly used but not referenced /ˈrɛfərəns /提及 as such because it is not a commonly known animal.Their spots are like the cats above, but they are elongated/ˈiːlɒŋɡeɪtɪd/ 过于细长的 or stretched the length of their body.

Now that we’ve sorted that out, we are excited to be able to correctly identify the spots on some of our favorite animal print fabrics!

What is common to cheetahs, leopards, and jaguars?

All of them sport spotted coats. They all belong to the Felidae 猫科 family of kingdom Animal, which also contains of lions, tigers, snow leopard, clouded leopards, and so on.

Now, jaguars are New World felines, meaning they are only found in the Americas, but cheetahs and leopards have a more or less overlapping geographic 地理的 range. So how do you differentiate between the two?

区分cheetahs and leopards

Cheetahs are faster than leopards―or any land animal for that matter. Interestingly, however, the difference between them goes well beyond their speed. Let's take their biological classification生物分类 for instance.

The cheetah is diurnal( /daɪˈɜːnəl/ Diurnal means happening or active during the daytime. 白日的 )in nature, which implies that it is active during the day time; mostly preferring to hunt in the early morning or evening. As opposed to this, the leopard is nocturnal, meaning it prefers to hunt at night.

Owing to 由于 its diurnal nature, hunting style, and natural habitat, the cheetah is largely dependent on its sight, instead of smell, when it comes to hunting. The leopard is a stalk-and-ambush predator which waits for its prey to close in, before attacking it, which is where its nocturnal nature comes handy.

恐龙互动小书

网课一节

编程:松鼠跳跳跳

体操打卡
