1. What is labour day?

Labour Day (Labor Day in the United States) is an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers. Labour Day has its origins in the labour union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.

劳动节（美国的劳动节）是一个庆祝工人成就的年度节日。劳动节起源于工会运动，尤其是“八小时工作制”运动，该运动提倡工作八小时，娱乐八小时，休息八小时。

2. When is the International Workers' Day? 

International Workers' Day, also known as Labour Day or Workers' Day in some countries and often referred to as May Day, is a celebration of labourers and the working classes that is promoted by the international labour movement which occurs every year on May Day (1 May), an ancient European spring festival.

国际劳动节，在一些国家叫劳动节或工人节，通常被称为五一节，是由劳动者和工人阶级所推动的国际工人运动产生的，每年在5月1日发生，这一天也是一个古老的欧洲春节。

The date was chosen by a pan-national organization of socialist and communist political parties to commemorate the Haymarket affair, which occurred in Chicago on 4 May 1886. The 1904 Sixth Conference of the Second International, called on "all Social Democratic Party organisations and trade unions of all countries to demonstrate energetically on the First of May for the legal establishment of the 8-hour day, for the class demands of the proletariat, and for universal peace."

社会主义和共产主义政党组成的泛国家组织选择了这一天，来纪念1886年5月4日在美国芝加哥发生的干草市场事件。1904年第二届国际会议第六次会议，号召“各国各社会民主党派组织和工会，在5月1日，为合法确立8小时工作制，为无产阶级要求，为世界和平，积极示威。”

The first of May is a national public holiday in many countries worldwide, in most cases as "Labour Day", "International Workers' Day" or some similar name – although some countries celebrate a Labour Day on other dates significant to them, such as the United States, which celebrates Labor Day on the first Monday of September.
