七、Talk about the bobsled.

Bobsleigh or bobsled is a team winter sport that involves making timed runs down narrow, twisting, banked, iced tracks in a gravity

Did you know: Bobsleigh was not included in the 1960 Winter Olympics, but has been in every Winter Olympics since.

First played: 1870s

Team members: Teams of 2 or 4

Equipment: High-tech sleigh, helmet

八、How can it move

There is no engine attached with the sleigh and it runs purely on push and gravity. The initial part of a bobsleigh track is a straightaway and is wide enough to allow the players to push the sleigh up to some distance which provides initial boost to the sleigh. The push-off takes around 6 seconds.

Every team es on explosive start and the initial push applied by the players later on provides the resultant speed to the sleigh throughout the game. So mostly players are chosen based on their physical abilities to push the sleigh as fast as possible. Initially, the players push the sleigh up to 50 metres and then board in to it one by one.

Initially, the pilot boards the sleigh and starts steering whereas the brakeman takes the last seat and controls the brake for the sleigh. In case of a four-man game, the other two players help in the initial push of the sleigh and then take the middle two seats and shift their weight during turns.

九、Make a Speedy Bobsled.

Prepare：scissors，short cardboard tube，paint，paintbrush，tape，two plastic bendy straws，cardboard.

Steps：

1、Cut the cardboard tube open

2、Paint the cardboard tube

3、Tape the straws to the bottom of the bobsled. Have the short part of the straw bend, as shown

4、To make the track. fold the sides of the cardboard up, leaving at least a 3-inch-Wide base

5、Paint the bobsled track. Let dry

Lean the top of the ramp against a chair or table.Then race your bobsled down the track.

In the race，some bobsled can go as fast as a car on the highway.

well let's make a bamboo phone to learn about the secret of sound transmission.

Prepare：two bamboo tulbes，Some kraft paper，Some string，Two small pieces of kraft paper.Some tape.And a toothpick

Steps：

1: Place the paper over one end of the bamboo tube.

2: Wrap a red strip around the top of the tube on the end with the paper.

3: Poke a hole in the middle of the paper with a toothpick.

4: Push the string through the hole.

5: Make a small hole in the middle of the little piece of paper.

6: Push the string through the hole in the small piece of paper.Tied it.

Procedure

• Give one cup to your conversation partner and hold one yourself.

• Walk slowly apart until the string connecting the cups is straight and tight.

• Put your cup over your ear and have your partner talk into his or her cup (keep the conversation relatively quiet if you are standing close to one another, but be sure to talk louder than a whisper).

• Can you hear your partner talking?

• Now you try talking into your cup and have your partner listen into his or her cup. Can he or she hear you?

• Try letting the string go slack. Is the cup-and-string telephone still effective?

• Now, keeping your voice at the same level and remaining the same distance apart, try talking to each other without using the cups. Can you hear as well?

Why does the sound go through the bamboo phone? and why can we hear the sound?

There is an ear drum in our ear.And when the sound comes in our ear，it meets the ear drum and then it will vibrate.And the vibrating signal of sound will go up into your brain and then we can hear sounds，and we understand what we were hearing.

And the sound wave in our bamboo phone comes in this side，and goes down the string into the other side.And the wall is very big.so the sound can be transmitted very far away
