2018生日在冰岛露营一周。今年到意大利露营两周。走近大自然,拥抱大自然!亲近大自然!

7-20从爱丁堡飞Verona,Italy

This family, the Rapelli, is a long time family friend (40-50 years?) of Sjoerd’s grandpa

The Rapelli grandpa passed away this year

And the daughter and her family (two daughters) took us out to show us Verona

Grandpa Rapelli was a linguist and the daughter is an editor for a publisher. Granddaughter also has an ear for languages and speaks very good English at 15 years old

Her partner, Marco, is a police inspector, so we felt like we had special protection the whole time, haha!

The daughter, Laura, studied art history (dissertation on churches), and so we had an amazing tour of Verona with her telling us all about the history, architecture, and art of Verona. Very special

The picture of me and the other girl on the lion, that’s Marta, 15 year old daughter of Laura, granddaughter of Grandpa Rapelli. She speaks very good English and was not shy at all to interact throughout the day

And little daughter Anna is very shy and doesn’t speak English but she really liked talking to me and we just pretended like we understood each other ☺️

And the grandma (in the picture) made an amazing lunch

July 22 By Lake Garda

July 23

Starting on Day 1 in the rain

We were the only two guests that night because the weather was so bad. No shower and a pretty basic meal,So altogether, 1300m up on Day 1 in the rain.

Today July 24,at the Fanes Waterfall

And some barbed wire from WWI

还有一些一战时期的铁丝网

July 25

So today was a rest day, where we went to a nearby town, Belluno.Didn’t do much but it

was a nice drive

Storming by the time we got back to Cortina.

We rented helmets and ropes for climbing tomorrow,Just enjoying a glass of Prosecco now and writing our travel journal

We plan to go to Tre Cime

writing our travel journal

July 26, It’s a special day today. Sjoerd reminded me that we’ve known each other for 999 days. So he gave me a ring to start a new chapter from tomorrow.

July 26, Friday.

Today’s hike near Tre Cime. We had to come down sooner than we planned because it started thundering and we didn’t want to risk being up 2000m in the rain

To celebrate this memorable day, we gave ourselves a big, delicious dinner

July 29 The place we stayed at on the top was cute, but no one else but us two because of the bad weather

Yesterday was hard! Rained all day and we went up 1300m with almost no chance to go flat or down

We got water from some runoffs in the mountains. Nice and cool

Our hut tonight is very luxurious, even came with a full dinner and hot shower + towels. It’s not cheap (€70 per person per night) but it really is beautiful and the service very very good

They even have the menu in SEVEN languages: Italian, English, German, Russian, Korean, Japanese, Chinese.

We bumped into a group of Koreans and Brits that we also saw on the mountains today and sjoerd made friends with the brits.

July,29 Safely down that steep peak again.

The story comes later!

Today , July 30 is driving day

Today is driving day

We were pretty miserable in the rain. But gathered our spirits and went on.We ended at Corda da Lago at 4:50. But the taxi down was too expensive. So we walked down. But it was another ONE THOUSAND meters!!! Argh!

And we were mostly on asphalt road, which is really hard on our knees. We took as many shortcuts through grass as possible and ended back down to the same campsite we were at earlier last week

Then it was about getting our car back. So I flagged down a bus that took sjoerd to a town near by the parking lot called Fiames. But from that town to the parking lot would be another 50min walk or a 5 min car ride

He waited at a gas station and a local was kind enough to take him. He’s lucky like this.So we finally got everything again

I was back at the campsite doing laundry and preparing dinner.Sjoerd got back and immediately we pitched our tent as the rain clouds didn’t look like they wanted to wait.We were just in time. Then dinner, shower, and back in our tent.Super sore, super tired, but very rewarding

Aug 1st,Sjoerd surprise me:

Opera at the Verona Arena,There were probably 20,000 people in the audience

Opera at the Verona Arena,,La Traviata

Plácido Domingo (the old guy) is on the left of the woman in white. Very special performance
