How plants drink

Let's set up an experiment to change the colour of flowers and discover how plants take up water.

When we bring the flowers home.We can remove petals that have been damaged.

Make dyed flowers

1.Due to I didin't find any carnations,so I take a white lilly and rose instead.Remove any leaves,then leave it out of water for an hour.

2.Pour some water into a glass.Add two teaspoons of food dye and mix it in.

3.Trim the end of the flower stem.Then put the flower in the dyed water.Compare the stems against the containers to see how long to trim it.Cut them to make sure that they can protrude from the top of the containers while at the same time making sure their stems will remain in the water.

4.Put the flowers into the food dye.Leave the flower for a while.We will check them later to see how does it look?(The flower petals should have changed colour.)

5.Once its petals have changed colour,cut across the stem.Can you see some little coloured dots?

experimental result：

1.The water has moved through the stems and colour the flowers.Carnations and gerberas work well because they soak up lots of water.

2.Plant stems have narrow tubes inside that draw up the dyed water into the patels.The coloured dots inside a stem are the ends of these tubes.
