Day23 A Busy and Happy Day

　　This morning Theresa taught us sth

about Learning Strategies.

She first asked us to guess the top ten

attractions of London and handed out a

piece of paper to each one. Then she asked some questions in the text and we should

answer in which passage it is. And for the

first right answer, give one point.

For this reading method, we feel nervous and focused. There will be no sleepy ss.

And then she showed us a picture including a title"How to make your child a genius？"

and guess the main idea of the text. After

guessing, read the passage in two minutes

to check whether our answer is right. We use the skimming to graspe the main idea.

What the strategies are involved in reading？

1.prediction(activating schemata)

2.skimming(to get the general idea=gist)

3.scanning(to get the specific information)

4.inferring opinions or attitudes.

5.producing meaning from the context.

6.recognising discourse markers and their

functions.

How to help ss skim?

1.Read the title and predict the content.

Where is the article from and who is it for?

Are there diagrams, tables,figures,and

illustrations?

2.Read instruction and conclusion

Read the topic sentences from the each paragraph. we use them to make assumptions.

　　From the picture below, we learn that

when we read the passage including some

spelling mistakes，we can still understand

the its meaning. That's because we see the whole passage,not just the single words.

　　In the afternoon,Gary and Ailsa taught us together. They told us to prepare the peer

teaching for the next week. In each group, every one should teach a word in two minutes, using different teaching methods.Our group chose ... Oh,now, it's a secret. The teachers gave all of the groups many good ideas.

Believe we can do a good job.

　　After the class, we went to the OLC to read books and learn some new words.
